Edgar Kendrick, Jr.

May 17, 1933 — October 24, 2012

A native and resident of Baton Rouge, he was born May 17, 1933 and passed away at the age of 79 on October 24, 2012. He was an engineer with the Telephone Company from which he retired after more than 30 years of service. He served in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA on Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Monday from 11:00 am until service at 1:00 pm conducted by Dick Gates. Graveside service to follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Bobbie Bridges Kendrick daughters, Patricia Gowdy, Sandra Young and husband Randy Young son, David Alan Kendrick and wife Tiffany C. Kendrick five grandchildren, Ashley Y. Walker, Courtney Young, Barton Gowdy, Bayli Kendrick and Parker Kendrick one greatgrandchild, Sophia Walker God child, Sylvia Poche Palermo. Preceded in death by his parents, Edgar D. Kendrick, Sr. and Gertrude Jones Kendrick sisters, Carolyn Ann Kendrick and Christine Jones Poche. Pallbearers, David Alan Kendrick, Parker Reed Kendrick, Barton Gowdy, Randy Young, Robert Nance Nick Walker, Greg Tullier, Ken Miller and Ray Dry. Honorary Pallbearers, granddaughters, Ashley Y. Walker, Courtney Young, Bayli Kendrick and Sophia Walker. A graduate of LSU, community oriented and loved to volunteer, belonged to the Downtown Lions Club, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Telephone Pioneers Active and Retired, Special Olympics, School for the Visually Impaired, Telephone 20 Club and the Pennington Cancer Center. Loved cruising with his wife since their retirement and being at as many events as he could in support of his children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Milletello and Dr. Russell along with their staff and Hospice of Baton Rouge and all of the support and caring individuals that have been in and out of his life during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Lions Club Crippled Childrens Camp in Leesville, LA or Hospice of Baton Rouge, in his memory.
