The Rev. Carroll Johnson was born on Aug. 31, 1946, in Hartsville, S.C., and passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, as a result of an automobile accident. He is now in the arms of his savior. Before entering the ministry, Carroll retired from Sonoco Products Co. after 35 years of employment. He was a minister in the United Methodist Church, having served Grand River United Methodist Church in Plaquemine and was most recently serving Mangham UMC and Crew Lake UMC in northeast Louisiana. He enjoyed working with the younger children by using puppets and stories to help them learn about God. He also enjoyed visiting with members of his churches. He loved South Carolina and LSU sports. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday from noon until service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Leslie Akin. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He is survived by his wife, Janice; father, Eddie H. Johnson and wife Jackie, of Hartsville; mother, Jennie Johnson, of Sumter, S.C.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jan and Donna Vigil; sister, Ann Johnson, of Sumter; daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Ryan Cox, of Florence, S.C.; son, Eddie, of Hartsville; stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Kim and Jesse Olague, of Hayward, Calif., and Nicole and Brandon Smith, of Baton Rouge; stepson, Kevin Miller, of Fort Polk; niece, Lynn Johnson; great-nephew, Curtis Johnson, of Sumter; step-grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Olague, of Hayward, Autumn and Taylor Smith, of Baton Rouge, and Austin, Landin and Jacob Miller, of Georgia; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Pallbearers will be the Rev. Bill McLain, Brandon Smith, Mark Jones, Curtis Johnson, Ken Warner and Tim Fife. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mangham United Methodist Church in Mangham or the Crew Lake United Methodist Church in Stuart, LA.
