Earnest Swillie, 86, husband of Nina Faye Patten Swillie, died Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont, Hospice House in Greenwood, SC.
Born in Fort Necessity, LA, he was the son of the late Will and Gladys Ford Swillie. A former resident of Baton Rouge, LA, Mr. Swillie made his home in Greenwood, SC since 2005. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a retired commercial construction superintendent.
Mr. Swillie was a member of Greenwood First Baptist Church and the Carpenter Sunday School Class and was a former member and Deacon of Sherwood Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA. He was a volunteer at Hospice Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood, SC where he was the recipient of the "Volunteer of the Year" Award in 2014. He enjoyed camping and traveling but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 65 years are his two children, Donna Firmin and husband Jim of Greenwood, SC and Will Swillie and wife Megan of Baton Rouge, LA; five grandchildren, Matthew Firmin and wife Nicole of Laurens, SC, Jennifer Firmin of Greenwood, SC, and Connor Swillie, Kathryn Swillie and Caroline Swillie, all of Baton Rouge, LA.
Funeral services will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, LA. on Thursday, April 19th at 3:00PM with visitation to follow.
