Earnest "Ernie" Guitreau

July 8, 1945 — October 27, 2024

With a heavy heart and great sadness, we announce the passing of Earnest “Ernie” Guitreau, on October 27, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born on July 8, 1945, in Baton Rouge, a son of the late Willie Mae Welda and Joseph Harold Guitreau.

In 1965, Ernie married Barbara “Bobbie” Guitreau, his partner in life and love. Both having grown up in Baton Rouge, they shared a deep connection to their community, where they built a beautiful life with their three sons, Darrin and Eric Guitreau, and later, Noah. Ernie’s devotion to his family was a perpetual source of strength and pride.

Professionally, Ernie was dedicated to his work at Turner Industries for most of his career where he was respected, not only for his skill and commitment, but for his genuine care of his colleagues. He truly loved his job, finding purpose and camaraderie in his work, and even as the years went by, he found it hard to consider retirement, as his colleagues were like family to him.

Ernie’s life was marked by his passion for service and community involvement. He served as a volunteer firefighter with the fledgling St. George Volunteer Fire Department. As a steadfast member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4030. Ernie exemplified the values of faith, charity, and brotherhood, furthering his commitment to serving others.

Known for his compassionate spirit and seeing the good in everyone, Ernie approached life with an unfaltering belief in the goodness of others, always seeing to lend a hand or offer support to anyone in need. His selflessness and optimism made him beloved by all who had the privilege to cross his path.

He loved spending time with his family, LSU sports, especially basketball. He played the drums and was considered a great dancer. Among his most treasured traditions was his annual trip to Las Vegas with the men in his family; a time for bonding, laughter, and shared memories that he held close to his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Betty Watts and Henry “Hinky” Guitreau; and his beloved son, Eric Daniel Guitreau.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Guitreau, his sons, Darrin Guitreau and wife, Christy, and Noah Guitreau; his brother, Billy Guitreau and wife, Janice; and numerous nieces and nephews.

May his memory inspire us to live with the same kindness, dedication, and joy that he brought into our lives every day. Words cannot express how much we already miss him. The lives he touched in 79 years are truly countless.
