A resident of Baton Rouge and a native of New Orleans, he died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at 10:45 p.m. at his home. He was 88 and a retired chemist for Exxon Refinery after 44 years of service. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, Feb. 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visiting at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 12424 Brodgon Lane, on Saturday from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Jerry Martin, celebrant. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He is survived by two daughters, Kristin Dobbs Claiborne and Jennifer Dobbs Claiborne; two sons, Earl B. Chip Claiborne and wife Pat, and Timothy J. Claiborne and wife Penny; six grandchildren, Natalie Lynn Records and husband Stewart, Melanie Lynn, Paul Michael and fiance Kami Johnson, Dustin Scott, Sara Catherine and Jackson Claiborne. Preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ethel L. Claiborne; and two daughters, Charlotte Claiborne Dobbs and Kathy Louise Claiborne. He was a graduate of Tulane University with a master's degree in chemistry. He was a charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8601.
