A retired driller from Texaco Oil Co. and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 87, a native of Many and a U.S. Navy Seabee veteran of World War II. Memorial visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home chapel, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday, Oct. 21, from noon until memorial service at 2 p.m. Inurnment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary H. Ammons; daughter, Wanda Ammons; two sons, David B. Ammons and wife Lorraine, and Steve C. Ammons and wife Janice; three sisters, Nettie Mae Isgitt, Clorine LaRue and husband James, and Martha Jean Ammons; brother, Haskell Ammons and wife Polly; and four grandchildren, Drew Ammons, Brian Ammons and wife Sunni, Blake Ammons and Chris Ammons. Preceded in death by a brother, J.D. Ammons; and parents, Oree Ellis and Effie Mae Ammons. He was a member and deacon of Florida Boulevard Baptist Church.
