Jose Jimenez Mendoza , 85 years old, a resident of Baton Rouge after moving from Metairie, LA, passed away on July 18, 2022.
He was born in the Municipality of Lubao in the Province of Pampanga, Philippines in 1936. Jose was the eldest of six brothers and one sister. He achieved his dream of becoming a doctor and graduated from medical school where he met his wife who was also a physician in training. Interestingly she was also the eldest of five sisters. In 1964, they married in Malate Catholic Church located in Manila, Philippines. Jose and Lida actively practiced medicine and started a family of four children when they moved to the United States in 1972. Jose accepted a four year radiology program at Tulane Medical System and practiced in Louisiana and Alabama until he retired. He served as the President of the Association of Philippine Physicians in LA and Gulf Coast for 2 years.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, spending time with family and watching basketball and football, especially the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers. Jose was an amazing cook who would make traditional Filipino dishes with the vegetables he grew in his garden. Wherever he was, there was always a garden that filled his yard. He took pride in hard work and being a provider unconditionally and without exception.
He lived his last few years in Baton Rouge where he was close to his children and adoring his grandchildren. He instilled his values of hard work, perseverance and higher education in his children who all achieved graduate and doctorate degrees.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Julian & Victoria Mendoza, and his brothers: Elpidio, Josefino, and Geraldo Mendoza.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dr. Lida Kiamco Mendoza; his children Douglas, Ike, Jacqueline and Jose Jr. and their spouses Kelli, Mark, John and Christy; and his grandchildren Ashley, Jonathan, Lane, Luke and Clara.
