Dr. John Todd Vignes, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was a native of Biloxi, MS and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA. John proudly served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a 1950 graduate of Notre Dame HS in Biloxi, obtained a degree from Mississippi Southern University and graduated from Loyola Dental School in 1959. He was a skillful and well respected dentist with a practice that spanned over four decades. He loved spending time in the great outdoors with friends, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was especially happy when spending time at his camp at Port Eads, where he enjoyed many fishing and hunting adventures. He loved symphony, especially brass horns he studied French horn and coronet in high school and college. He was a dedicated runner, participating in many River Road Runs. When he hung up his running shoes, he enjoyed spending time on his deck overlooking the LSU lakes, watching the sunset while sipping on a Manhattan. He was a fixture at Coffee Call, where he met with his friends almost daily. After his retirement, he and Juan Li enjoyed exploring the country in their R.V., loving Alaska best of all. John is survived by his loving wife, Juan Li Vignes three daughters, Ilaine Vignes Upton and husband Chris, Lydia Vignes Waite and husband David, and Jean Vignes sons, Kammer LeMieux Vignes, and Chaobin Fang four grandchildren, Dr. Sarah Waite Owens and husband Kyle, Camille Beck and husband Kirk, Benjamin Upton and Nicholas Upton seven greatgrandchildren brother, Dr. E. Victor Vignes Sr. and wife Barbara nieces, Dr. Julie Vignes Bridges Samuel, and Bobbie Schatz and nephew, Edwin Victor Vignes, Jr., other relatives and special friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Valentine Vignes and Helen White Vignes son, John Valentine Val Vignes II grandson, Brian Upton and former wife, Kerrie LeMieux. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 5 pm to 8 pm and will resume at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Ave., on Friday, February 7, 2014 at from 9 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am.
