Dr. William James Mitchell passed away in Longview Texas on November 28, 2017. William is survived by his wife of forty four years, Deloris Ann Mitchell, with whom he helped raise six children: Roxana, Kendall, William II, Cristen, Lauren and Alton. William is also survived by his children and eight grandchildren. William was born in San Antonio Texas to Alton Ezell and Velma Armentor Mitchell in 1940. William graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware in 1965 and with a master's degree from the University of Southwest Louisiana in 1967. William graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1970. William was a family physician caring for patients primarily in St. Tammany Parish. In his later career, William cared for patients through the Veterans Administration in Louisiana, Florida and Texas, where he retired in 2015. William is a past President of the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians and was active in Catholic Charismatic Renewal and The Knights of Columbus.William is preceded in death by his parents Alton Ezell Mitchell & Velma Armentor Mitchell, his identical twin brother, Phillip John Mitchell and son, Kendall Reed Vincent.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday December 4, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic church in Prairieville, Louisiana. Father Jerry Martin will officiate. Visitation will be held at 10:15 at St. John the Evangelist. Burial will follow the funeral at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
