Dr. Ted Z. Collins, 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 24, 2017.
Ted was born January 29, 1931 in Jonesville, LA. He was an amazing person that had accomplished so many wonderful things in his life. He attended LSU from 1948-1953 where he received a Master's in accounting and graduated Magna cum Laude. He served as a Captain in the U. S. Air Force from 1953-1959. His role was in SAC (Strategic Air Command), Navigator and he was acknowledged as "Navigator of the Year" twice. After completing his service, he was determined to return to LSU medical school from 1960-1969 to become one of the oldest students admitted at the age of 30 and became an accomplished radiologist. He worked at OLOL Regional Medical Center from 1973-2008 until he retired.
He is remembered for his love of medicine and as a wealth of knowledge within his field. He was dedicated to his profession and held an unparalleled work ethic. Although he enjoyed working, he also dearly loved his family, spending time at home, he loved a good meal with a glass of wine and casual reading.
He was a humble man with a wonderful, witty sense of humor. He was the epitome of the word "gentleman" and he was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Delores McGlothin Collins from Ferriday, LA.; father, Steve Collins; mother, Irene Collins; brother, Dale Collins; and sisters, Peggy Collins Humble and Dolores Collins Wilson.
Those left to cherish his memory include his second wife of 18 years, Bonnie Ogletree Collins. His children, Stephen L. Collins and wife Patty, Candace Collins Passen and husband Paul, Lisa Ogletree Manno, Lara Ogletree Gautreaux and husband Matt. Seven Grandchildren, Camille Collins Black, Jackson West, Sennett Passen, Maddox Passen, Lance Manno, Greyson Gautreaux and Sydney Gautreaux and 2 great grandchildren: Vivienne Black and Marguerite Black.
A private graveside service was held on March 28, 2017 at 1:00 pm for immediate family and close friends/relatives.
The family would lastly like to thank all of the continued support and help from Bridgeway Hospice and Mackenzie, Eldercare of Baton Rouge and Courtney Davis, Jr. for the countless hours spent with the family.
