Doyle Alton Ball Sr. died at his home in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the age of 83. He was a native of Angie, a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired insulator and member of Union Local 53. Survived by his children and their spouses, Belinda and James Downing, Olga and Don Simoneaux, Doyle Jr. Buddy and Christy Ball, and James Ball grandchildren, Michelle Mayeux, Stacey Gagneaux, Amanda Ammann, Nicholas and Kevin Simoneaux, Dawn Santiny, Doyle A. Trey III, Tyler and Trenton Ball and Danielle and James Ball Jr. greatgrandchildren, Mason, Madison and Amelia Mayeux and Caden Gagneaux brothers, Basil, Paul and Gilbert and sisters, Donis Fornea, Lola Mae Ball, Lacy Doss, Rose Hutchinson and Trudy Williams. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Idola Landry Ball mother, Mildred Olga Ball father, James Alton Ball and sister, Nell Ezell. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Thursday, April 21, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home chapel Friday from 8:30 a.m. until funeral service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Gerald Young. Entombment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Darrell Jones, Mark Davis, Dewey Voinche and Polo Mouton. Known to many as Pawpaw, he embraced life to the fullest, with a generous heart and an unconditional love. He was an avid wine maker and passionate gardener, known for his muscadine wine and abundant crops of fresh vegetables. Some of his greatest joys were showcasing his garden, and sharing the fruits of his labor with his many visitors to Ballville. His last hours included a tour of his garden with his family. Pawpaw enjoyed many passions in life, but none ranked ahead of his family. His door was forever open, and his stories will be told for generations to come. He will be missed by his large and loving family and countless friends.
