Dorothy Elizabeth Brown Spell, born on October 17, 1931 to Charles and Viola Brown of Eunice, LA went to be with her Lord and Savior after a long battle of Alzheimer's on May 12, 2017.
In 1959 she cofounded along with her husband First Pentecostal church of WBR where she was the Choir Director and Director of Evangelism. In 1967 they moved to Baton Rouge and founded Life Tabernacle Church along with Robert Livingston Academy and Lifeway Book and Gift, that later became Lighthouse Outlet. In 2005, she along with her husband built another church on the corner of Hooper Road and Blackwater Road where she served as First Lady until she retired.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years Bishop Bervick A Spell; 4 sons, Malcolm, Timothy, and wife Jeannie, Stephen and Anthony, and wife Gloria; 2 daughters Belinda Spell and Deborah Spell Garrett, and husband Gary; one sister Elaine Skender of Macon, Georgia; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 26 nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; one son Johnny Mitchell Spell; one grandson, Matt Spell; 3 brothers, Percy, Leroy and Charles; 3 sisters, AnnaLee, Betty and Mamie.
Visitation will be at Life Tabernacle Church 9323 Hooper Rd. Central, LA Thursday May 18 from 5:00pm till 9:00 pm and continue on Friday May 19 from 9:00am till service begins at 11:00am.
Pall Bearers will be Grandson Nathan Conrad, Nephew Darren Spell, Edwin Wildman, Rev. Joel Gatlin, Danny Bourque, Marshall Woodward.
Honorary Pall Bearers are Rev. Tommy Jackson, Rev James Corkern, Rev. Larry Hickman, Rev. John Hair, Rev. C M Duplissy and Son n Law Rev. Gary Garrett.
Serving as Armor Bearer to Bishop B A Spell is great grandson Alex Gatlin.
Music provided by Minister Mark Yandris, Noah Spell, Cornelius Williams, Tim Spell ll, and Charter member of Life Tabernacle and friend Janice Wildman.
