Dorothy Rutland

Dorothy Jean Wascom Rutland, age 82, a resident of Baton Rouge, peacefully passed away on July 6, 2016 after a seven year battle with Alzheimers.

She is survived by her two sons, Kevin Rutland (Lori), and Keith Rutland; her two granddaughters, Shae Rutland and Sophie Rutland; former daughter-in-law, Erin Brian Rutland, mother of Shae.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Rutland, Jr., her parents, Wesley and Ouida Wascom; and her brother, Wesley Wascom, Jr. She was married to Roy for 54 years and they had two beloved sons.

Family was very important to Dorothy. She dearly loved her two granddaughters. Caring for Shae in her pre-school years brought her immense joy. She was deeply loved and cherished.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 11, 2016, at 9:00 am until services at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The service will be performed by a dear family friend, Rev. Jeff Haley.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to the loving care given by the staff of The Crossing Hospice and Amber Terrace.
