Dorothy Ann Cooper Byrd, a resident of Prairieville, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the age of 85. Dorothy was born on July 2, 1938, in Warrior, Alabama to Angus and Marguerite Cooper.
Dorothy graduated from the Alabama school for the Deaf and later became a Dorm Counselor at the Louisiana School for the Deaf. She loved reading, sunflowers, cooking and watching “I Love Lucy” and Tony Bennett. Her family and friends will remember her penchant for saying “Oh My Goodness.” Most of all, she was very devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The love she shared with them is the greatest legacy she will leave.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, John Monroe Byrd; and her son, John Preston.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Debbie Cormier (Brent) and Angela Kaplan (Mitch); her grandchildren, Natasha, Erik, Garrett, Cooper, Robert, Alexis, David, and Marguerite; her great-grandchildren, Victoria, Oriana, Eli, Landon, River, Liam, and Claire (due in August); and her siblings, Sarah Ferguson, Ray Cooper and Holley Cooper.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
The family would like to give special thanks to Gonzales Healthcare and Gentiva Hospice.
