Doris Turner Padgett, 91, died of natural causes on October 6, 2016, at her home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Born to Harvey and Sarah Turner on May 31, 1925 near Jacksonville, Florida, she lived in Florida and Boston, Massachusetts before settling in Baton Rouge. She moved here with her husband, Webster "Bud" Padgett in the early 1950's.
Doris had a true zest for life, and never lost her passion for learning. She greatly enjoyed reading, traveling the world, and spending time with family and friends. She spent many wonderful hours with the LEDS ladies and the Thalians Book Club. She volunteered for a number of organizations over the years, and had a particular love for opera and the arts.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Webster "Bud" Padgett; her parents, Harvey and Sarah Turner; and her siblings, Edwin Turner and Sadie Whitehead.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, James Padgett and wife Rosanne, Ann Padgett Richardson and husband Mike, Glen Padgett and wife Teresa; and her five grandchildren, Morgan Richardson, Jesse Padgett, Adele Padgett, Steven Padgett and Carl Padgett.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held, Tuesday, October 11th, from 6:00pm until 8:30pm at St. James Place, 333 Lee Drive, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the Theater Room.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to St. James Place for the support and care of Mrs. Padgett over the years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. James Place Foundation, the LSU Opera Society, the Baton Rouge Symphony, or any charity of choice.
