Doris Jean Meek, age 87, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on Sept. 1, 2018
Doris was born in Cambridge Springs, PA. Married Jan. 12, 1952 in West Springfield, PA. Later that year she moved with her new family to Houston, TX. In 1964, the family relocated to Baton Rouge and later that year the family became founding members of Community Bible Church on Jefferson Hwy. She was a homemaker and in the 1970's she worked part-time at Sears. In the early 1980's the family purchased a home in Granby, CO where they spent many wonderful retirement summers and winter ski vacations. She and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and the world with family and friends.
She was known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as "Honey". She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends, but her residence is now in heaven with the Lord.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert "Bob" Meek; son, David Meek of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Terri M. Douglas and husband Joseph "Ed" Douglas of Baton Rouge, LA; son, Stephen Meek and wife Julie Meek of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Stacie Price and husband Jesse of Singapore, Katy Woltmann and husband Josh of Chicago, IL, Christina Lafleur and husband Paul of Lafayette, LA., Laura Meek of Edinburg, Scotland, Douglas Meek and wife Katie of New Orleans, LA.;5 greatgrandchildren; brother, Rev. Duane Sutton of DeQuincy, LA. and sister, Joyce West of Dallas, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Gertrude Sutton.
Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home on September 4, 2018 from 5 pm - 8 pm. Visitations will resume September 5, 2018 at Community Bible Church at 10 am until the service which begins at 11 am. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Pallbearers will be David Meek, Stephen Meek, Ed Douglas, Paul Lafleur, Douglas Meek and Josh Woltmann.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Baton Rouge and the staff at Blake at the Grove Assisted Living for their kind care of our loved one.
