Doris Marie Brooks Livers, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 at St. Joseph's Carpenter House. She was 88 years of age, born on October 3, 1928.
Doris graduated from Marshall High School and then attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas during the years of World War II. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, George Lee Livers, Jr. They married on December 28, 1950 in Marshall, Texas. They lived in Dallas, Texas for a short time before moving to Shreveport, La. where they lived for most of their life. Together they had two children she loved unconditionally, George Lee Livers III, and Mary Lynne Livers. They also had many others that considered them their "second" parents. Doris was one of a kind and enjoyed life to its fullest. She loved playing bridge, watching sports, cooking for family and "company," traveling, live entertainment and festivals. She was a great hostess, loved to dance and she loved a good party. Her extended family of nieces and nephews loved to be with their Aunt Doris as she was always the life of the party. She and George moved with United Gas Pipeline Company in 1975 to Houston where they lived for 20 years. They moved back to Shreveport in 1995 where they reunited with old friends and made new friends in their Catholic Family Guild. They loved Shreveport but moved to the Haven in Baton Rouge in February 2013 to be closer to their family.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, George; son, George Livers III of Austin, Texas; daughters Mary Livers and Penny Frazier of Baton Rouge; sister Martha Wynn of Austin, Texas who was lovingly at her side during much of her illness; and brother Ben Charles Brooks, of Marshall, Texas. She is also survived by her nephew Sean O'Con from Shreveport, and a host of other relatives in Texas. She was especially close to her nephews Bob Wynn, John Wynn, and niece Mary Susan Wynn, their spouses and children, all of Austin, Texas. In addition, Doris considered Stafford Johnson, Nancy Gautreau, Nellie Gonsoulin and Adrienne Clark as her Baton Rouge family. She was preceded in death by her father, Ben Houston Brooks, her mother, Martha Jewel Brooks, her sister, Marjorie Brooks Whitehurst, and nephew Billy Charles Whitehurst.
Visitation will be observed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, February 16 from 10:00 am to 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow, celebrated by Father Matt Dupre. Interment will take place in Marshall, Texas at a time to be determined.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the many medical professionals at the Baton Rouge Clinic, Baton Rouge General Hospital, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, and Ochsners in New Orleans for the excellent care Doris received. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Joseph's Carpenter House in Baton Rouge.
