Doris Smith Fulgham, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the age of 88. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on February 9, 1937, she was the beloved daughter of the late Issac “Ike” and Myra Ellen “Tillie” Smith. Doris graduated from Istrouma High School.
Doris was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, where she found much joy and fellowship. Her vibrant spirit shone brightly in her love for square dancing; she was a proud member of the Cast of Square Dance Club and the Round Dance Club, where she cherished the camaraderie of friends and the joy of dance.
Above all, Doris was devoted to her family, creating a wealth of cherished memories through time spent with loved ones. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Byron P. Gulledge Jr., with whom she shared 25 beautiful years, her second husband, William “Bill” Fulgham, of 14 years, as well as her beloved parents, Issac “Ike” and Myra Ellen “Tillie” Smith.
Doris is survived by her son, Austin Gulledge and his wife Denise; her grandchildren, Dustin Gulledge and Melissa Gulledge Moore; and her adored great-grandchildren, Xander Moya, Maddax Moya, Luna Gulledge, Freya Gulledge, and Juliet Gulledge.
The family warmly invites all who loved Doris to join them in commemorating her remarkable life. A visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, located at 11817 Jefferson Hwy., in Baton Rouge, on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 1:30 PM until the funeral service at 2:30 PM. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place at Resthaven Gardens of Memory at 3:30 PM.
