Doris Darden

Darden, Mrs. Julian Allen (Doris Ruth Westmoreland).

A long time resident of Baton Rouge, Doris Darden, 85, died March 18th at St Joseph's Carpenter House.

She was a 1949 graduate of the journalism school at Louisiana State University and was a member of Beta Sigma Omicron and Alpha Phi sororities. She was, since 1956, a member of the Broadmoor United Methodist Church and of the Fellowship Sunday School class.

She was a member of Chapter C of P.E.O. and of The Study Club. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Molly Lea Dr., Baton Rouge 70815.

Survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, David Allen Darden of Grand Junction, CO and Allen Dale and Maria Marrero Darden of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren, Joseph Allen Darden of Los Angeles, CA, Kristen Ruth Darden of Peoria, IL, Rachel Lynn Darden of Grand Junction, CO, Alexander Marrero and wife Lauren Burtt Darden, Julian Alberto Darden, and Allen Dale "Mookie" Darden Jr. all of Baton Rouge; sister Mrs. Charles T. (Joyce) Schoonmaker; sister-in-law, Mrs. Joyce N. Westmoreland; nephew, J. Eric Schoonmaker, and five nieces, Mrs. James E. (Carolyn) Rutledge of Albert Lea, MN, and Mrs. Brad J. (Sara) Brumfield, Mrs. Scott (Lisa) Collier, Mrs. Marc (Lauren) Baronet and Ms. Leigh Jackson all of Baton Rouge. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Darden, Alexander Darden, Julian Darden, Allen Darden Jr, Louis Freeman, and Eric Schoonmaker.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 58 years, Julian Allen Darden; daughter-in-law Susan Sills Darden; parents David Alexander and Marguerite Fischer Westmoreland; brother Dr. Dale David Westmoreland and sister Mrs. Clarence A. (Jean) Matherne.


Visiting at Broadmoor United Methodist Church from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Saturday March 21st with religious services to follow.

Burial will be in the Resthaven Gardens of Memories Mausoleum.
