Doris Beeson, 87, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at her home in Baton Rouge in the care of family, caregivers and Hospice of Baton Rouge. She was born Jan. 3, 1922, in Hickman County, Ky. Surviving are sisters, Hettie C. Dike and Mary Lee C. Brown; sisters-in-law, Ruth B. Schoonmaker and Doranne Crawford; brother-in-law, J. Dewey Sutherland; children, David B. Beeson, Jonathan H. Beeson and wife Judy, Sharon Beeson Jones and husband Carlton, Pamela Beeson Hurston Jones and husband Dan, and Donna Beeson Barineau and husband Mark; grandchildren, Clara B. Boudreaux, David B. Beeson Jr., John W. Beeson, Patrick F. Beeson, Jonathan M. Beeson, William H. Billy Beeson, Nicole A. Beeson, Carlton Jones III, Amy J. Punkay, Megan J. Freeman, Stephen D. Hurston, Benjamin J. Hurston, Cherie H. Shropshire, Christian B. Hurston, Tyler R. Barineau and Hallie C. Barineau, and their spouses and children, numbering 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and other extended family members. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Housin Bernard Beeson; father, Louis Marvin Byrd; mother, Julia Clara Lee Rankin Byrd Crawford; stepfather, Allen Hallie Crawford; siblings, Francis Bud Rankin, James Jimmy Rankin, Louis Byrd, Jerry Byrd, Willie Byrd Westfall, Allen Crawford, William Ted Crawford and Richard Crawford; in-laws, William Henry and Lola Hoglan Beeson, George Schoonmaker and Mary Angeline B. Sutherland; daughter-in-law, Carla Beeson; grandchildren, Brenda Gay Beeson and James Jamie Bailey Barineau; and other extended family members. Visitors will be received at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until memorial service at 10 a.m. Flowers are appreciated and donations can be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge. We give many thanks to the caregivers who shared the last three years of Doris' life, and to the hospice staff who helped the family and caregivers through the dying process and softened our loss.
