Donald Ray Strickland

November 26, 1942 — March 16, 2024

Donald Ray Strickland passed away on March 16, 2024 at 3:00pm at the age of 81. He was a native of Amite, La and a long time resident of Baton Rouge, LA. He graduated from Amite High School in 1960 and attended Southeastern Louisiana College. 


He worked as a merchant marine for two years and sailed out of the port of New Orleans. His travels took him through the Suez Canal on his way to Karachi, Pakistan; thru the Panama Canal in route to Incheon, South Korea; and various ports in South America. He joined the Army and served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1964 to 1967. He then moved to Baton Rouge where he started his 51 year career in the wholesale electrical supply business. 


Throughout his life, he enjoyed flying, motorcycle riding and playing golf with his best friend, Herschel Hamilton. He was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family and friends. 


Survived by his son, Donald Spencer (Spence) Strickland, daughter, Brandi Lynne Strickland and fiancé Thomas Nelson Brignac and granddaughter Britney Lynne Nall. Preceded in death by parents Murphy B and Marian W Strickland and sister and brother-in-law Patsy Gail and Walker M. Conery.
