Donald J. Stabiler passed away on November 11, 2017, at the age of 82.
He went to St. Agnes School on East Boulevard, and afterward to Catholic High. Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy at the height of the Cold War, and made several trips to the Far East. Upon discharge from the Navy he entered LSU in Baton Rouge, earning a degree in education. Following graduation, he became a teacher for 40 years in English and Humanities at De La Salle High School on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. It is not an exaggeration to say that he is a legend there. Among his students were David Vitter, Mitch Landrieu, Branford and Wynton Marsalis, et al.
Donald is survived by his brothers, Wayne and Dennis Stabiler; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, RJ and Vera Stabiler; and his brother Warren Stabiler.
Visitation will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, on Friday, November 17, 2017, from 10:00 am until funeral services at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
