Donald J. Ryder, a resident of Baton Rouge, La entered into the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, June 6, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 76 years old, born on October 22, 1937 in Opelousas, LA.
A retiree of Salmon and Associates, Don began his career at the Baton Rouge area as a piping designer with F.C. Shaeffer and Arkel International at the Kenana Sugar Mill in Sudan as a coordinator on site with several international companies such as Technip, McAlpine etc. in U.S. he worked at BASF, Ciba Geigi, CF industries through his career to 1999. Don proudly served in the National Guard. He enjoyed collecting antique trunks, old cars and any garden tools. Don was an inventor, a collector and a workhorse. He loved working in his yard and was a devoted Christian.
Don is survived by his wife, Odette Girardin Ryder daughter, Kathie Ryder Harrison and husband Mark son, Karl Christopher Ryder and wife Jamey Rhys daughter, April Leigh Ryder grandchildren, Ben Harrison, Betsy Harrison, Bethany Harrison, Emily Ryder, Mallory Thomason, Andy Thomason, Ryan Thomason and Ashton Thomason six greatgrandchildren, Nathan, McKenzie, Kyler, Triston, Abby and Bastian and siblings, Charles Ryder, Margaret Ryder Windham and Bijou, his daily companion.
Preceded in death by his parents, Earl Angelo Ryder and Laura Margaret Olano Ryder brother, Earl Ryder sister, Joycelyn Ryder Dwyer and brother, Robert F. Ryder.
Visiting hours will be observed at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from 9:00 am until service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
