Donald "Don" James Rodriguez, 69, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease on April 18, 2017, at Harvest Manor Nursing Home in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Don was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on November 25, 1947 and graduated from Istrouma High School. On September 20, 1968, he married the love of his life, Meryl Lynn Martin Rodriguez. He was a member of the United States Navy and served his country in Vietnam. Don was retired from both the Local 198 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, with 18 years of service, and the Entergy River Bend Nuclear Power Plant after 22 years of service. Don believed in family first and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Meryl Rodriguez, Baton Rouge; his son, Ricky Rodriguez and wife, Jessica, Geismar; his daughter, Rachelle Onstead, Denham Springs; grandchildren Carter & Emma Rodriguez, Austin & Colton Onstead; sisters, Amy Rodriguez, Walker and Beth Rodriguez Taranto and husband Michael, Denham Springs; nephews Seth & Lee Taranto, Denham Springs; and many beloved family & friends.
Preceded in death by his parents James Wood and Nellie Mae Fuller Rodriguez; grandchild, Preston Wood Rodriguez.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to Harvest Manor Nursing Home and Life Source Hospice for their care and support in the final years of Don's life.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 9:00am until funeral services at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Pallbearers will be Milford Johnson, Robert Maranto, Dany Martin, Austin Onstead, Carter Rodriguez, Lee Taranto, Seth Taranto, and Michael Taranto (honorary).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area at alzbr.org or Vietnam Veterans Association at vva.org.
