Donald Courtney

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8. A retired U.S. Marine Corps captain and a chief examiner with the Louisiana State Civil Service, he died at 2:40 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 87 and a native of Plaquemine. Capt. Courtney retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after serving during World War II and Korea and received the Bronze Star Medal. Memorial service at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Survived by his wife, Barbara Lee Courtney; two daughters, Marilyn Joan Courtney and Laura Lee Courtney; three sons, Donald David Courtney, Mark William Courtney, and John Christopher Courtney; three sisters, Mildred Benton, Carmen McNabb and Ruth Gonzales; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his mother, Grace Julia Courtney; father, Henry Davis Courtney; sister, Claire Landry; and two brothers, Hubert Courtney and Kirkland Courtney. He graduated from Soul Business College in New Orleans.
