Co-owner of Tony Chachere's Seasoning, he died at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. He was 79, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Opelousas. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church on Wednesday from 10:15 a.m. until religious service at 11:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Tom Ranzino. Entombment in St. George Catholic Church Mausoleum. Survived by his wife, Sylvia Jane Barbre Chachere; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and James Higdon, Baton Rouge, Leslie and Mark Maeser, Phoenix, Patti and David Senn, Baton Rouge, and Clare Chachere and Ramsey Abarca, Austin, Texas; three sons, Donald Chachere Jr. and wife Catherine, Opelousas, John Chachere and wife Doreen, Raleigh, N.C., and Alex Chachere, Youngsville; two sisters, Patsy Castille and Jeannine Wallace, both of Opelousas; two brothers, Alex Chachere and Doug Chachere, both of Opelousas; 20 grandchildren and numerous other family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Tony and Patricia Pat Kerr Chachere; and brother, Anthony Tony Chachere. He was professor in the Cursillo Movement, active with the Legion of Mary, district manager of Colonial Life, past president of Tony Chachere's Creole Foods and an active member of St. Jean Vianney Parish.
