Don, son of Henry Paul Broussard and Margaret Becnel Broussard, was born June 11, 1934 in New Orleans. He married Merieda Sue Bard April 15, 1961. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons: Debra and her husband Charles Wale, Patricia and her husband Daniel George, Stephen and his wife Alisha Broussard, Michael and his wife Carla Broussard. His grandchildren include Charles, Brent and Drew Wale, Kelsi and Alissa George, Aneliese and Brighton Broussard, Grace and Madeline Parker, Megan and Shelby Broussard, and eight great grandchildren.

Don graduated from Louisiana State University and spent his career in the insurance business establishing Broussard, Bush and Hurst in 1980.

The family moved to Baton Rouge in 1964 and joined St. Thomas More (STM) Church and school. Don actively participated in daily mass and ministries. Naming just a few of his ministries and charitable works, he taught high school students Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) for 20 years and was a Eucharistic Minister for many years. At STM he also started the monthly seniors group and monthly volunteers to provide dinner for a men's shelter at St Vincent de Paul. With the approval of Fr John Carville, Don wrote to St Vincent's DePaul to join forces with their ministry to serve the poor within the STM parish.

Don served in the capacity of various offices as a member of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre which is under the protection of the Pope. He did the same in the Serra Club for 40 years.
Recently, he served on the Board of Directors for St Joseph's Abbey and Seminary College. During his tenure he was instrumental in negotiating settlements, federal flood insurance, and new building insurance for the abbey following their devastating losses after the 2016 flood.

With determination to share the gospel with the City of Baton Rouge, Don worked hard to bring in the Catholic Community Radio station and Catholic Life TV Channel 15 to the community.

After the sale of his insurance business to Arthur Gallager, Don was seeking where the Lord would have him spend his talents and money. Perhaps Don's greatest legacy to be the hands and feet of Christ was prioritizing his remaining years to the expansion of housing and services to the poor through St Vincent's dePaul where he shared the vision of Bishops Ott, Hughes and Muench. He served on the Board of Directors for 20 years expanding the men's, women and children's, and family shelters. They expanded free pharmacy care, donation centers, and gave out a few thousand presents with the Bishop each Christmas.

In lieu of flowers his favorite charities were St. Vincent De Paul and The Bishop Fund.
