Donald J. Braud, Sr., affectionately known as “Duck” to most, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 6, 2025, and the age of 83. He was born January 29, 1942, to J. D. Braud, Sr. and Sophie Ramirez Braud in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Donald is a 1959 graduate of Catholic High School. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Army until 1962. He was a longtime employee of South Central Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1994 as a regional manager.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 29 years, Connie S. Braud; and his sister, Joy Braud. Donald leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 23 years, Annette Bourgeois Braud; children Darla Bourgeois and husband Chad, Daryn Scott and husband Gene, Donnie Braud and wife Carrie, Tracy Wild and husband Rob, Marcy Wynne and husband Greg, and Casey Owens and wife Michele; grandchildren Dylan Rauh and wife Madisen, Nicholas Duncan, Madison Scott, Scarlette Scott, Lincoln Scott, Shelby Bourgeois, Callie Braud, Clayton Braud, Taylor Hall and husband Matt, Tanner Wild, Brandon Wynne and Brooklyn Wynne; and great-grandchildren, Grayson Rauh, Brooks Rauh, Ashton Thomas and Ryder Hall. He is also survived by brothers Denny Braud and Bonnie, and Barry Braud; his sister-in-law, Sonya Womack and husband Larry; and as well as numerous other extended family and so many friends that meant the world to him.
Donald was an avid sportsman and professional fisherman. He was a member of the East Ascension Sportsman’s League and a parishioner at St. Mark Catholic Church.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The family will attend a private inurnment at a later date.
