A resident and native of Baton Rouge, he died Thursday, July 12, 2012. He was 77. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he fought in the Korean War. Visiting begins at Resthaven Funeral Home on Sunday, July 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. and will resume on Monday July 16, at 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Tommy Middleton. Burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survivors include his wife, Peggy D. Betz daughter, Jacy Zeringue and husband Danny sons, Jerry Betz and wife Tammy and Jeff Betz and wife Dutchie sisters, Emmaline Betz and Katie Myers and husband Jerry brother, Howard Betz and wife Mary 4 grandchildren, Brandee Betz, Blake Betz, Chip Zeringue and David Zeringue. Preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand and Katie Betz brother, F.S. Betz and sister, Rita Mautner. Donald was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. He loved his family and spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing. Special thanks to the staff at Ollie Steele Burden Manor for their compassionate care and to Dr. Edwin Walker for the many years of caring for Don and his family. The pallbearers will be Chip Zeringue, Blake Betz, John D. Allen, John Ed Allen, Danny Zeringue and Rhett Sandusky, and honorary pallbearers are Wiley Duke, Jerry Myers and Zeke Dunaway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
