A retired marine surveyor and resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at The Guest House. He was 76, born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and later moved to London. He graduated from Bridlington College, Yorkshire, England, in 1957, then served in the British Merchant Navy as a radio officer for 10 years. Derek had a good sense of humor, a special gift for playing the piano and enjoyed music, especially classical. He also enjoyed traveling, deepsea fishing and was fluent in several languages. He was one of Jehovahs Witnesses and served as a pioneer for several years. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 1 p.m. until memorial service in the chapel at 2 p.m. Survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Barbara Waugh daughter, Dawn Dufour, Katy, Texas son, Peter Waugh, Prairieville three sisters, Rita Poole, Wishaw, Scotland, Margaret Wilde, Glen Iris, Melbourne, Australia, and Gilda Waugh, Ramesgate, England two grandchildren, Brennan and Julia Dufour and several nieces, nephews, greatnieces and greatnephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Rita Waugh. Special thanks to the staff at The Guest House and Life Source Hospice of Baton Rouge.
