On June 27, 2021, after a valiant and courageous fight, Deidre Duffy Berthelot passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones and is “going home,” as she told her family. She was 66 years old. The greatest gifts she ever received are her children, Danielle Guzzardo (Chad) and Derek Berthelot (Andrea), who will forever cherish their short time on Earth with their mother, and who will keep her memory alive in her precious grandchildren, Nicholas Guzzardo, Hudson Guzzardo, Nora Berthelot, and Evie Berthelot. She is survived by and will be incredibly missed by her mother, Vilma Relimpio Duffy, her three brothers, Warren Duffy, Jr. (Marilyn), Duaine Duffy (Karen), and Darren Duffy (Laura), and her nieces and nephews (Danya, Davven, Dianna, Donovan, Katie, Patrick, and Bryce) and their families.
Deidre grew up in Destrehan, Louisiana next to her grandparents, whom she adored. She formed a special bond with her grandparents during her childhood, and it was this bond that forever shaped her and showed her the importance of family. Deidre was a selfless woman. Her life is a true example of unconditional love. Her family will forever be grateful to have been hers.
Her fondest memories centered around her time with family, and she enjoyed reminiscing about Friday night fish fries, summers at the family camp, and endless memories made with her best friends: her brothers.
Deidre took pride in hosting Thanksgiving dinner. She loved Christmas and Mardi Gras. It was Deidre who ensured each year that the Duffy’s had their spot on the Avenue, and her family will continue to save the spot in her honor for years to come.
Deidre enjoyed sharing her love and knowledge of plants and gardening, particularly with her customers and friends at D’s Garden Center in Baton Rouge. She was so thankful for the opportunity to work in a field she loved at the Garden Center, but most importantly, work alongside her brother.
Her remarkable and constant Faith in the face of her fight with cancer has been an inspiration to her loved ones. Deidre focused on the big picture in life. She will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, and beautiful woman who always put Faith and family before all.
She is preceded in death by her father, Warren Duffy, Sr., her aunt, Inez Relimpio Schillaci, and her grandparents, V.G. and Amelia Relimpio and John and Stella Duffy, who greeted her with open arms.
Her family is eternally grateful for the love and support shown throughout her fight. Family, friends, and others whose lives Deidre touched are invited to St. George Catholic Church (7808 St. George Drive - Baton Rouge, LA 70809) on Friday July 2, 2021. Visitation begins at 9:00AM, followed by Mass at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at St. George Cemetery.
