David Melvin Nester, of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the age of 72.
David was born in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania on March 3, 1945 to Melvin and Betty Nester. He graduated from Southern Lehigh High School and continued on to receive a Mechanical Engineering degree from Pennsylvania State University.
David was married to Pamela Aughenbaugh on April 12, 1969; they were married for 45 years.
David worked as a Mechanical Engineer for Exxon Chemical for more than 30 years. He relocated his family to Baton Rouge, LA from Edison, NJ in 1972. David was an avid handyman. He enjoyed fixing his own cars and helping his children with home improvement projects. He was also a scoutmaster in Istrouma Area Council for nearly a decade. Dave was a longtime member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. He was a loving and tireless full-time caregiver for his wife Pam for many years until her death in 2014.
David is survived by his three children, Julie Russell and her husband Cliff, Andrew Nester and his wife Rachel, and Jonathan Nester; his grandchildren, Michael Nester and his wife Heather, Luke Russell, Sydney Nester, and Noah Russell; and his 2 sisters, Marilyn Mace and Sylvia Trone of Pennsylvania.
David is preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Aughenbaugh Nester and his parents, Melvin H. Nester and Elizabeth I. Nester.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA on Monday, March 13, 2017 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Baton Rouge or Upper Milford Mennonite Church in Zionsville, PA. The family of David Nester wishes to thank Dr. Deborah Abernathy and Hospice of Baton Rouge.
