Capt. Danny Jo “Brim” Moore, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the Baton Rouge General Hospital Bluebonnet. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed by all that knew him. He was born on July 17, 1944, and lead a remarkable life filled with an amazing career, love, and family.
As a Vietnam Era Veteran, he served in Germany and the military honor guard. Dan was known for his commitment to his country, family, and friends. If you ever needed anything, all you had to do was give him a call and he would do whatever he could to help. Dan worked on the Mississippi River as a deckhand, tugboat captain and then a pilot with the New Orleans Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots Association for 43 years. His proudest moments were being the best husband, father, grandfather, and all-around good friend to many. Dan enjoyed hobbies such as hunting and fishing, going out to eat with the family and just spending time together. We have learned through this process the many people that Dan would text to wish them a happy holiday or just to check on them.
Dan is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Mary Edith Shackelford Moore; loving children Michelle Longino, Veronica Walker (Jason), Charles “Chuck” Moore (Jodie); grandchildren Kevin Longino, Clancy Walker, Victoria Walker, Caroline Moore, Cameron Moore; siblings Wanda Healy (Ned), Scotty Moore (Vickie); sister-in-law Jerri Shackelford Watson, Jean Shackelford, Sue Ellen Moore, and brother-in-law Charles Shackelford (Sandy) and many nieces and nephews along with numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Marcus Welton “Red” Clancy, mother and father Ouida and Joseph Moore, brother Michael Moore, nephew Michael Moore, mother in-law Edith Anderson Shackelford, father-in-law Charles Shackelford, brother-in-law Captain Meyer Joseph “Mike” Watson, sister-in-law Joan Shackelford Oliveaux and Aunt Maida Clancy.
Services to honor and celebrate Dan’s life will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm; Eulogy at 12:30 pm until the Mass of Christian burial with Father Todd Lloyd at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens cemetery. Pall bearers will be Charles “Chuck” Moore, Jason Walker, Kevin Longino, Jason Hall, Todd Welborn, Paul Mansur, John Spinosa. Honorary pallbearer Jacob Hall.
The legacy that Dan created with his lovely wife Mary will continue through their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to come.
