Danny J. McConnell, age 70, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on December 6, 2021, after a year-long battle with kidney cancer. He was a graduate of Catholic High School, as well as LSU, and was a retired Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) at Altus Wealth Management.
Danny was a one-of-a-kind, fun-loving, good-hearted Irish lad who gave his personal time and resources to various organizations. He was a member of Cortana Kiwanis, a past officer of the LA-Miss-WTenn Kiwanis District, a past president and volunteer for Hospice of Baton Rouge, a member of the Irish Club of Baton Rouge, an usher for St Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9692. He also served on the Board of Trustees for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro LA, and for many years organized the John Manda Golf Tournament for the Club.
Danny will be remembered for his love of rum and Diet Coke, all things LSU, and his famous chicken wings that he prepared for his Phi Delt buddies. Danny will also be remembered as the largest leprechaun in the Irish Club parade.
Danny is survived by his wife of 19 years, Gail Lamousin; his brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Frances McConnell; his sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Barry Dodson; sisters-in-law, Sharon L. Gatlin, Lynn Lamousin Stowe and husband, David; nieces, Kelley Dodson, Courtney Gatlin, Whitney Gatlin, Erin Hoffman and husband, Keith, Amy Carter and husband, Brian; great nieces, Anna Kate Carter and Cecilia Hoffman; and great nephew, Jack Carter.
He was preceded in death by mother, Murel “Bubbie” McConnell; father Frank McConnell; and brother, Perry McConnell.
Visiting hours will take place at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, LA, on Thursday, December 9, 2021, from 9:30 a.m, until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hospice of Baton Rouge, Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro LA, Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, or your favorite charity.
