Dan Wingate

Dan E. Wingate, age 81, who was a native of Eros, LA and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on April 8, 2015 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

He was a long time teacher, coach, and principal for East Baton Rouge Parish School System. Dan assisted in the opening of Belaire High School and remained as the principal there until his retirement in 1989. He greatly enjoyed fishing and teaching Sunday School. Dan was also a veteran of the United States Army.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, June C. Wingate; son, Wynn Wingate and wife Laura; daughter, Danelle Burleson; stepson, Rick Clayton; stepdaughter, Susan Liggett and husband Steve; grandchildren, Danny and Josh Wingate, Jessica Miller, Wes and Chase Treigle, and Lennon Gainey; step-grandchildren, Alex and Katie Ligett, Amanda Smith, Adam and Lee Clayton, and Austin Swarner; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy Salley and husband Paul; and brother, Ray Wingate and wife Judy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mabel Wingate; wife of 45 years, LaNelle Wingate; and brother, Robert Wingate.

The family request that visiting hours be observed on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visiting hours will resume on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 9:00 AM until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Wes and Chase Treigle, Josh, Danny and David Wingate, and John Gainey. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA. Officiant will be Pastors Joey Beason and TW Terrell.

Interment will take place at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
