Retired from the U.S. Navy and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriffs Office, he died at 6:41 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at his residence in Lafayette. He was 89, a former longtime resident of Baton Rouge and a native of St. Francisville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, having served aboard the USS Charleston, USS Tazewell and USS Indianapolis. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home chapel, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, Jan. 28, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his daughter, Susan Fortenberry and husband Mike son, Dr. John Dalton Martin and wife Ashley and six grandchildren, Erin Fortenberry, Tristan Fortenberry, Madeleine Martin, Jack Martin, Lauren Martin and Caroline Martin. Preceded in death by his wife, Christy Lydia Martin parents, Dalton Vernon and Burrie Spillman Martin son, Paul Bradley Martin and brother, Lynwood Foy Martin. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.
