Claude Michael Gillespie "Mike", 76, passed away from mycobacterium and bacterium abscesses, Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at his home in Baton Rouge. He was met by his favorite poodles, Precious and Trixie, Mike always thought foo-foo dogs were for other people, but thought more of them than his family. He was born October 21, 1942 in Baton Rouge, LA. Mike served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963. Mike loved riding his Harley and hunting with his buddies in Kentwood (but never bringing anything home). We will miss his sense of humor. The best and happiest time of his life began in 2009 when Mike became a faithful member of the Catholic Church and he and his wife Marie had their Convalidation Wedding ceremony. He became more loving, kind and peaceful but still had a great sense of humor. When Mike became ill, he said "we have to trust in God," and his faith carried him to the end. Even though he has departed, Mike's Cycle Supply will continue to be family owned and operated.
Mike is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marie Nacol Gillespie and his son, Michael Glynn Gillespie both of Baton Rouge, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents Morris and Elaine Roddy, and sister, Sandra Gillespie Frey.
Special thanks to his doctors in Tyler, Texas and here in Baton Rouge, also his angels from Amydesis, Amy, Angela, Dustin and Megan, he always looked forward to their visits. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2250 Main Street in Baton Rouge. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am, Mass will follow at 10:30 am. The Reverend Miles Walsh, celebrant.
