Clara W. Simmons, a former resident of New Orleans east and resident of Baton Rouge, died at 4:25 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. She was 81 and a native of Hebron, N.D. Visiting at Bethel Temple Assembly of God, 12124 Airline Highway, on Thursday, July 17, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Vernon Dodd. Graveside service at Metairie Cemetery, Metairie, at 2:45 p.m. Thursday. Survived by her husband, James R. Simmons, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; daughter, Darla Powell and husband Dennis; three sons and daughters-in-law, James E. and Barbara Simmons, Roger L. and Pam Simmons and Richard C. and Cecilia Simmons; eight sisters, Leah Sieler, Esther Hurtt, Orpah Tudor, Delilah Smith, Dinah Wood, Ruth Yoder, Della Weber and Sharon Burns; two brothers, Fred and Cecil Weber; 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Michael and Michelle Powell, Paul and Abigayle Simmons, Toby, Jessie, of the Louisiana National Guard, and Bryan Simmons, Richard Simmons, of the U.S. Navy, Hailey Lopez and Contessa Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Hayden Miller and Rylan Miller. Preceded in death by her brothers, Rueben, Raymond and Calvin Weber; and parents, Phillipp and Friedaricka Weber. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church.
