Clara Mae Cuccia Aucoin, age 94, a resident of Prairieville and Ponchatoula, passed away on January 1, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Ponchatoula. She was born in New Orleans, attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Redemptorist High School. She later studied art at Larry Casso’s Fine Art Academy in Baton Rouge.
Clara and Raymond Aucoin were married for 66 years when he passed in 2013. They lived in Arabi and Baton Rouge for many years.
During WWII, Clara worked at the Navy Base in Algiers, LA and then for the Federal Government in New Orleans.
She was a loving daughter, wife and mother. Clara was a great cook, and an artist, winning several awards for her beautiful paintings. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting.
Clara was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville and also attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula.
Clara is survived by her children: Raymond Gairen Aucoin (Luisa) and Cheryl Aucoin Kuhn (Jimmy); sister Mary Althea Cuccia Molina; grandchildren James Kuhn, Jennifer Kuhn, Ian Aucoin (Sarah), Holland Aucoin (Kelli), Marjorie Bournigal (Mario), and Katie German; great grandchildren Ethan Kuhn and Beau Bournigal, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Raymond George Aucoin, parents Mary Althea “Honey” and Nicholas Joseph Cuccia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home at 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70816 on Friday, January 8 between 11:00am & 12:30pm. A funeral mass will be at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 15208 LA-73, Prairieville, LA 70769 at 1:00pm. Following mass, burial will take place at Resthaven Garden of Memory Cemetery, Baton Rouge, LA.
