Christy Lawrence

September 17, 1960 — February 25, 2015

Christy Posselius Lawrence passed away in Baton Rouge, LA on February 25, 2015.

She was born on September 17, 1960, to the late Edward Joseph Posselius, Jr. and Doris (Church) Posselius, in Detroit, Michigan, and was the middle of three children. In 1992, she married Bill Lawrence and in 1994 gave birth to twins, Adam and Ellie. She grew up in Grosse Pointe, MI, lived much of her adult life in Royal Oak, MI, before moving to Baton Rouge, LA, in 2009.

Christy graduated in 1983 from the University of Detroit. Christy's first career was as a radio DJ - from 1983 to 1987 she was "Christy Adams" on WLEW in Bad Axe, MI and then "Christy Wells" on WHNN in Saginaw, MI. Although she enjoyed being on the radio, the hours and pay began to wear on her and, in 1988, she took a job with Maritz Communications in the Detroit area where she worked from 1988-1992. It was there that she met her husband, Bill. When her children became a bit older, she began working at the Sunflowers Preschool in Royal Oak where she realized that she had a love of working with children.

After moving to Baton Rouge, Christy found another opportunity to work with that age group, taking a position with the Runnels School teaching preschool students. She described it as an opportunity "to make a difference while laughing the whole time." Christy was diagnosed with a lymphoma in the Fall of 2013, and fought this horrible disease bravely and with good humor for a year and a half.

She leaves behind her husband, William (Bill); children, Adam and Elizabeth "Ellie" Lawrence of Baton Rouge, LA; brother, Edward Joseph (Ted) Posselius III of Denver, CO; sister, Tricia Mooney of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and "sisters", Grace Dansbury and Sally Murphy.
