Christine Barksdale Arnold was born on August 27, 1923 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was called to her heavenly home on May 24, 2021 in St. Francisville, LA.
Her caring ways and sweet smile will be greatly missed. Chris was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Vacations with family made lasting memories and traveling with her husband and church friends during retired years was one of her favorite things, right up there with ice cream every day and making those favorite dishes and desserts for family and church gatherings. Her 90th birthday celebration was a truly a joy and it has been a blessing to love her for seven additional years.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, at an early age, in 2002 by her sister, Julia Etta Devall, and in 1989 by her beloved husband, John T. Arnold.
Chris and J. T. were high school sweethearts, married for 43 years, raised three children and were charter members of Community Bible Church in Baton Rouge where they served faithfully for many years. She became a member of First Baptist Church in St Francisville LA upon moving to the community over 25 years ago. She loved her church family and especially her Sunday School Class, senior group and VBS co-workers. She dearly loved her God, children, grandchildren, and precious great and great-great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: daughter Suzanne Grawl and husband Robert, of Houston TX, daughter Sandra Hadden and husband Jimmy, of St. Francisville LA, son Michael Arnold and wife Ann of Gonzales LA; her grandchildren: (her first grandchild who proceeded in death) Christy Singleton, Richard Singleton and wife Ashley of St Francisville LA, Melanie Tsika and husband Paul of Richmond TX, Scott Hadden and wife Laura of Rosepine LA, Brad Hadden and wife Katie of Wichita Falls TX, Justin Arnold and wife Mona of Gonzales LA, Doug Arnold and wife Nikki of Gonzales LA, Lisa Ponce and husband Joey of Gonzales LA, Jonathan Arnold of Gonzales LA, and Christopher Grawl and wife Kelly of Denver CO; her 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren: and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Chris’ favorite Bible verse: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledged Him and He shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 kjv.
Chris’ motto: Listen to Him – Trust Him – Obey Him.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at First Baptist Church of St. Francisville, 12404 LA-10 at Hwy 61, St Francisville, LA 70775, from 9 AM until services at 11 AM conducted by Rev. Dr. Joel Williams.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of St Francisville, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
