Christian Fern

Christian Paul Fern, 76, was born in New Orleans and has been a resident of Baton Rouge since 1993, passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2022, after a difficult battle against Parkinson’s disease and Dementia.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Simon Frank Fern and Eulah Jamerson Fern.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mikelle Castillon Fern; daughter, Kimberly Eve Fern (Eric J. Englert); son, Christian P. Fern, II (Peggy Raschke); three grandsons, Ragan M. Maldonado (L. Ashtin Harter Maldonado), Dillon M. Fern, Austin J. Fern, and also Paris and Peyton Arschke; five great-grandchildren, Gavin, Layla, Lainey, Claire, and Clay Maldonado. He is also survived by his brother, Russell D. Fern (Marie Weixel), brother-in-law, Alfred H. Castillon (Earline-Susu), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Chris was a graduate of John McDonogh High School and Southeastern Louisiana University. He went on to work for Avondale Shipyard for 22 years and moved to Baton Rouge for a job with Bernard & Burke Engineering that later became En Global.

Chris loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was never happier than when he could get the entire family together. He loved to entertain family and friends, enjoyed traveling, loved fishing and golf, and was a devoted Saint’s and LSU fan.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and our special sitters for their kindness and caring hearts.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA, beginning at 11 AM with memorial services to follow at 1:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation in Chris’ name will be appreciated.
