Christene R. Herring, 91, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 10, 2014. She died peacefully at home with those she loved around her after battling congestive heart failure.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Herring Taylor, brother J. B. Russell, sister Mrs. J. O. Bess Greer and husband Duck, Mrs. Gerald Hazel Hall and husband Gerald, and sisterinlaw Nancy Russell, all of Baton Rouge: numerous nieces and nephews, and special family Monette Davis. Preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Eugene Gene Herring, parents J. B. and Mattie Butler Russell, and brother Thomas Buster Russell.
She had retired from the State Department of Education. She was a longtime member of Istrouma Baptist Church where she served in the Preschool ministry for 54 years before joining an adult Sunday school class with what she called her preschool education. Special thanks to Home Instead Senior Care who had been caring for Ms. Chris for the last 11 months. Extra special thanks to Barbara Bradford Barbara No. 2 for the attentive and loving care she provided mom for all those 11 months. Mom looked forward to Barbaras arrival every day.
Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Tuesday, Aug 12, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 9.a.m. until service at 11 a.m. officiated by Dr. Jeff Ginn and Bro. Ron Lambe. Burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be nephews and great nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Istrouma Baptist Church, 10500 Sam Rushing Drive, Baton Rouge, La 70816 or St. Joseph Hospice, 10615 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, La 70809.
