Chester Hugh Boyd passed away at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from a heart attack at the age of 69. He was born in Oakland, California in 1947 to Louis H and Gladys Boyd, one of four children, and grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, graduating from Fairpark High School in 1965. He was a devoted LSU Tiger and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
After graduating from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1969, Chester served as a Military Intelligence Officer in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1972. Upon returning to Baton Rouge after his service, he graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from Louisiana State University Law School in 1976. He dedicated his career as an attorney to defending those who could not defend themselves, running a successful law practice for over forty years.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Christopher; daughter, Jennifer; grandson, Cruz Fuentes; sister, Susan (Don) Turner; sister, Linda (Dave) Gordon; sister, Anne Yarbrough, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Funeral services will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 on Saturday, February 11. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 PM with funeral starting at 2:00 PM. After the burial there will be a gathering at Pastime Restaurant and Lounge on South Street in Baton Rouge.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the LSU Foundation with a designation for the Chester Boyd Memorial Fund. Donations will go towards the purchase of an LSU Memorial Oak endowment in Chester's name at his favorite tailgating spot.
