Charles Strother

December 22, 1942 — January 23, 2013

Charles passed away peacefully in his home, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 2:15 pm in Baton Rouge, La., at the age of 70. He left the loving arms of his family and passed gently into the arms of his Lord and the waiting embrace of his son Darren. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon Slaughter Strother. Two sons, Devan Strother of Baton Rouge, Damon Strother and wife Celeste of lafayette, La.. Former daughterinlaw Kristy Strother of Nortonville, Kansas. Two granddaughters, Morgan Schwartz of Joplin, Missouri and Elle Strother of Nortonville, Kansas. Three grandsons, Cameron, Collin and Carson of Lafayette, La.. A sister Myrtis Kitchens of Albany, la., Two brothers, Gene Strother and wife Sherrie of Prairieville, La., Randal Strother and wife Barbara of Port Allen, La. Charles was preceded in death by his son Darren Ray, September 14, 2012., and a younger son. His parents Ira and Doris Strother of Baton Rouge, La. and a brother Jerry Strother of Texas. Charles was a retired U.S. Postal Clerk out of the distribution center on Blue Bonnet, Blvd. Baton Rouge, La. with 32 years service. A former sheet metal worker in Baton Rouge with 20 years service. A member of Calvary Christian Church of Baton Rouge. A graduate of Louisiana School for the Deaf in 1962. A member of the American Postal Workers Union where he served for many years as a delegate for the deaf. A member of the retired postal workers breakfast club. Charles was a loving, devoted husband to his wife Sharon. He was a special dad that worked hard for his family despite his hearing disability. He always put family and friends first above his own needs. His pride in his sons and grandchildren was always evident. A private family service will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank Dr. David Fontenot, Dr. Robert Hinkle and the staff of Delta Home Health and the staff of St. Joseph Hospice for their professional and especially kind care of Charles during this time. Charles was a very special man, and his presence will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who knew him. Resthaven Funeral Home is incharge of arrangements.
