A native of Cobden, Ill., and a resident of Baton Rouge for more than 60 years, he died at his home Sunday, July 11, 2010. Charles was a World War II veteran and became a Third Degree Master Mason on Jan. 24, 1978, initiated and raised by Northeast Lodge 435. Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Irene Whitehead Sprouse parents, William and Jessie Armour Sprouse brothers, Bob Sprouse and Billie Sprouse and grandson, Kyle Patrick Shurley. He leaves behind his two devoted daughters, Janice Inness and her husband, Conrad, and Shirley Weber and her husband, Dudley three grandsons of whom he was very proud, Scott Shurley and his wife, Kori, Eric Shurley and Brent Weber two greatgranddaughters, Grace and Emmaline Shurley greatgrandson, Dallas Patrick Shurley niece, Carol Knight and her husband, Jeffrey and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Scott Shurley, Eric Shurley, Brent Weber, Clayton Knight, Russell Whitehead and Neil Whitehead. The family would especially like to thank Mr. Charles three wonderful caregivers, Ollie Singleton, Linda Jones and Betty McManus, who looked after him with such loving care and compassion and were all with him the morning he passed from this life to his heavenly reward. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home on Thursday, July 15, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Jim Nichols.
