Charles Shepard

Charles Lee Shepard, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 91 years old.

He was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Navy and was a devout servant of his Catholic Community. He was a charter member of St. Mark Catholic Church (Chalmette, La.) and a member of the Knights of Columbus (5747 in Chalmette and 10455 Most Blessed Sacrament in Baton Rouge). He was a recipient of the St. Louis Medallion for service to his Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He was active in AARP and NARFE chapters in Chalmette and Baton Rouge for many years.

He was a graduate of Nicholls High School in New Orleans and Louisiana State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired after many years of employment with the United States Department of Agriculture.

His greatest joys were his family. He spent 63 years of marriage doting on his wife and would light up when any of his grandchildren would walk into the room.

He is preceded in death by his parents Vernon Shepard and Emmie LeCompte; Siblings Grace, Roy, and Raymond; In-laws George Plaeger Sr. and Thelma Cosse.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn; Daughters Suzanne Ruiz (Earl) and Yvette Caillouet (Milton).

Grandchildren: Stephen Serio (Brittany), Matthew Serio (Daphne), Corey Caillouet (Gil), Sean Caillouet, Scott, Chad, and Quinn Ruiz.

Great Grandchildren: Jathan, Ainsley, Ethan, Olivia, Robert, Sebastian, Oliver, Elizabeth, and Stella.

Visitation and a Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. Visitation beginning at 9:00 until Mass at 10:00 AM. Burial will be held at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens in Chalmette at 2:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. Vincent DePaul in Baton Rouge.
