Charles ""Chuck"" N. Meole, Sr., age 99, who was a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Wednesday February 4, 2014 at his residence.
After graduating from high school Chuck went on to Millersville State Teachers College. He began teaching, but World War II called and he enlisted in the army. He served honorably in Japan and the Philippines. Upon returning, he was a civilian instructor at Keesler Field in Biloxi, MS. In 1955, Chuck joined the sales team at Coburn Supply. An outgoing people person, he loved being a salesman and the family moved from Biloxi, to Houma, to Lake Charles and finally to Baton Rouge in 1960. He traveled all over south Louisiana and made life-long friends with all of his customers, and was known for his supply of bubblegum, pencils and pocketknives. He was also always looking for a good cup of coffee. In 1980, at the age of 65, he began weightlifting, eventually becoming a World Master Weight Lifter. He traveled the world, attending and competing in meets, and always brought home the gold. He had a wonderful time and always sent postcards to everyone he knew. In 2005, at the age of 90, he tore his rotator cuff and couldn't lift weights anymore. At that point Chuck took up ballroom dancing and again had the time of his life.
Chuck is survived by three daughters Lynne Meole Rawley, Phyllis Meole and husband Jimmy Pierce, Kathleen Bernacchio and husband Paul; two sons, Charles N. Meole, Jr. and Nick Meole and wife Karen; nine grandchildren; Seth Sherman, Ben Pierce, Caleb Bernacchio, Kate Mire, Andrew Bernacchio, Claire Bernacchio, Joe Rawley, Jennifer Meole and Rachel Nester; two great-grandchildren, Julia Meole and Sydney Nester.
