Charles P. Raborn, M. D., age 83, a resident of Covington, LA, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017.
Charles was born August 21, 1933, in Baton Rouge, LA. He was in the United States Army M.C. and Active Reserves from September 1954 and retired in 1993 as Colonel. He served in Korea in 1955 and Desert Storm as Chief of Pediatrics at Lyster Army Medical Clinic in Fort Rucker, Alabama.
Charles graduated from Istrouma High School in 1951, Loyola University -- Pharmacy in 1954 and Louisiana State University-School of Medicine, New Orleans in 1961. He was Board Certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Allergy. His internship was at Womack Army Hospital, Ft. Bragg, NC, residency was at Madigan Army Hospital, Ft. Lewis WA, and upon completion served as Chief of Pediatrics at Eisenhower Hospital, Ft. Gordon Ga. Dr. Raborn practiced at Stanacola Medical from 1967-1977, He joined James Hannie M.D. in 1977at the Pediatric Medical Center and began Pedicons, Inc. in 1992 continuing his practice as a pediatrician until he retired in 2008. Dr. Raborn was instrumental in implementing the Kid Med healthcare program in Louisiana.
Charles was an active member of Jefferson Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA followed by First Baptist Church in Covington, LA. Charles was an active member in the Baptist Medical/Dental Fellowship and participated in mission trips to Mexico, Venezuela, Antigua and Cuba. He was a Fellow of American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of American College of Physicians Executives, a member of East Baton Rouge Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society and was honored for 50 years of Medical Practice.
Charles also was an avid wood carver, and was a founding member of the Pelican Wood Carvers Club. He enjoyed fishing and telling jokes.
Charles is survived by his wife of 60 years, Adrienne Averitt Raborn; his children, Karen Raborn Rogers, Susan Maria Raborn, Betsy Raborn Muller and husband, Jimmy; his siblings, Robert L. Raborn, William P. Raborn and wife, Margie; his grandchildren, Kristen Muller Clinton and husband, Justin, Elise A. Muller, Kelly L. Rogers, Ian A. Rogers and Layne N. Raborn; and great granddaughter, Anella Clare Clinton.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John D Raborn, Sr.; siblings, Dewey Raborn, John D. Raborn, Jr., Wiley B. Raborn and Marjorie Raborn Sandifer.
Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, from 12:00pm until Funeral Service at 2:00pm. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory cemetery.
