Charles Helm Masters, Jr., of Baton Rouge, age 80, passed at 3:45 AM, April 9, 2012, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Gwen L. Masters, formerly of Eunice, La. Mr. Masters was born in Marksville, LA on December 23, 1931 and attended Marksville High School, graduating in 1950. From 19501954 he attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where he received his BA in Economics. He was a loyal and consistent benefactor throughout his life. Returning to Avoyelles Parish, he went into business with his father, Charles Helm Masters, Sr. operating and owning Ideal Chevrolet and various other businesses for 37 years. He was a community leader, beginning from his time as an Eagle Scout to his pinnacle as CEO of Union Bank of Marksville. He was a member of Kisatchie National Park for Preservation, President of the Association of special needs children in Avoyelles Parish, a member of the Marksville Beautification Project, the Marksville Chamber of Commerce, and traveled widely to solicit new business for Avoyelles Parish. He was prominent in political circles, being appointed to several state commissions by several Governors including John J. McKeithen to Governor Edwin Edwards. He was one of the youngest members of the internationally renowned Young Presidents Organization, a group of civic leaders dedicated to improving communities throughout the United States and abroad. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Helm Masters, Sr. and his mother, Marie Agnes Moreau. He is survived by his wife, Gwen L. Masters and his children Coral Marie Masters of Baton Rouge, her two children, and five grandchildren Donna Lea Childress and spouse Lamar of New Orleans John David Masters and spouse Janet of Pineville, his child, and one grandchild Claudette Detty Masters of Lafayette Michele Ann LaCombe and spouse Jody of Plaucheville and their three children Mary Aggie Littleton and spouse Ronnie of Effie and their two children and his stepdaughters Monica Joubert and spouse Jacques of Eunice and their two children Veronica Soileau and spouse Jody of Mamou and Angie Myers and spouse Brandon of Dallas, TX. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Resthaven Funeral Home 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA from 9:30 AM until funeral services at 2:00 PM.
